What is Contractor Markup?
Contractor markup is the percentage a GC adds on top of sub costs and materials to cover overhead and profit. Typical markup runs 10–20% for residential remodels, higher for small or complex jobs.
Examples
- A 15% markup on $100,000 of subs = $15,000 in GC margin.
- A 25% markup on materials delivered to the jobsite.
- A 10% overhead + 10% profit (often written "10 and 10").
